Historical Background

The Waughroon Kid may be based on The Karate Kid, a series of movies (1984, 1986, 1989, and one in 1994 featuring a girl) about a weak kid lacking confidence who is trained in karate and is able to overcome skilled opponents in tournaments, most notably the Cobra Kai Dojo, which trains its students to use karate with dirty tactics.
