Job Ability

  • While in effect, lowers TP cost of dances and steps to 0.
  • Obtained: Dancer Level 1
  • Recast Time: 2:00:00
  • Duration: 1:00

Notes/Description

  • Trance is a Dancer's Two Hour Ability.
  • While active, the TP cost for all Sambas, Waltzes, and Steps is reduced to zero, making them free to use as long as recast timers permit.
  • When active, reduces the recast of Waltzes to 6 seconds.

Macro Syntax

  • /ja "Trance" <me>
  • Since Trance is a two hour special, some people prefer not to make a macro for it to prevent unintentional activation.
  • Some people prefer to put two hour job abilities on a trigger macro. This means they use the macro syntax /ja "Trance" <stpc>, which makes the macro user have to select a player character to use the job ability on, increasing the safety of the macro.

Origins

Trance was the name given to the "limit break" style of commands a character could gain in Final Fantasy IX when they incurred enough damage. This set of abilities was made easier to attain during a battle when a character had learned the High Tide ability. Many fans of the franchise disliked this feature however, because if a player did not use it to it's fullest during the battle which it was attained, the character under the Trance effect would have their Trance Gauge reset to 0, forcing the player to build up the gauge again in the event of an upcoming boss battle.
