History in the FF Series
Unicorn was a Summon who appeared in Final Fantasy VI. It appeared as a white unicorn with a golden mane and gray horn that appeared and emitted a blue field of energy. It had yellow eyes. It would remove all negative statuses from the party. Unicorn was also a Summon in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. There, it was a healing summon, restoring some HP.
- In FFVI, it was one of the test tubes suspended in a water-filled tube in the Magitek Research Facility in Vector. Along with its fellow Espers, it chose to convert itself into Magicite so that its power may assist the heroes rather than be subjected to more experimentation by the Empire.

Historical Background
In Medieval folklore, the Unicorn was a horse-like creature, usually white, with a single horn emerging from its horehead, the beard of a billy-goat, cloven hooves, and a lion's tail. It is a solitary wild animal which often roams in forests or mountain meadows. It is said only a maiden can tame, can charm this wild beast. According to stories, hunters trying to poach its horn would use a virgin to set a trap for it. There were reports of Unicorns as regular animals in India in Greek times. Another variety of the Unicorn was the Alicorn, a Unicorn with a spiraled horn. Both Unicorn and Alicorn horns, when ground up and placed into a brew, are said to be able to neutralize any poison. The Chinese Qilin (Japanese Kirin) is said to resemble the Unicorn.
