Character Background
Ctownwoody was born in an small bedroom in the southern United States (not the South, though) and grew up a math and social science whiz. He got a degree in economics and an unofficial Masters in geekdom. His main draw Final Fantasy XI was the budding, player-driven proto-economy.
He now spends his time in an undisclosed location in the Pacific Northwest, separated by 3 timezones from his Linkshell, and endlessly researches the theories and practices of crafters. He has taken on a baby Galka recently, named Ctownalchy, to teach the finer points of Alchemy synthesis.

Feel free to give me comment, suggestions, requests for information, etc. I'm a social player and a crafter who has only recently discovered something called Experience Points. Nothing pleases me more than getting feedback on my guides. --Ctownwoody 00:21, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
Not sure where to put a comment or a message, but here seemed just as good as any a place. We chatted in game not too long ago and I used your Smithing guide very well. An alternative to people that can't afford to make Darksteel ingots, or can't find any ores in AH, or want instant reimbursement, Gorgets are a good alternative to use. They cap out at 53 Smithing and use only one Sheep Leather and one Iron Ingot with a Fire Crystal to make. They resell back to the Bastok Smithing Guild Merchant for ~3060 gil each, which is almost a break-even synth per cost. Feel free to add it into your Smithing Guide by Ctownwoody page and delete this note here. ^^ Danallen 06:43, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- Actuly gorget takes an Iron Sheet not an ingot. They also npc for about 2300 generaly. Tho its said it can go up to 3k after maintanence - Godofgods
- Godofgods, I use the higher end prices that reflect what NPCs pay and the lower end of what NPCs sell as an education point about looking at vendors as a way of getting and desposing of ingredients. Thanks for the input; I changed my guide this weekend. --Ctownwoody 17:29, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
I love your guides and I had a question about what your recommendation would be regarding moghancements. I'm looking at taking either cooking or alchemy to 100 using your guide, and they use a large variety of crystals and wanted to know whether it was worth investing in any furniture to reduce items lost or not. Thanks. --Kaele7 23:59, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
I wanted to thank you for your guides.
The two guides/info I have been looking for lately are 1. about dual skillups i.e. 40ww 24alch making bast parchment. 2 something along the lines of general advice or common expectations for the game. i.e. having the warps to whitegate. (I learned about this one the hard way after missing out on three groups because of having to take the boat.)
Atm I am trying to work out some sort of order to leveling my synths, since I will have the advantage of corequirements being leveled. i.e. making my own bast parchment.
Zaulot 08:43, 5 June 2009 (UTC)Like everyone else, I think your guides are amazing. I do have a question on woodworking HQ theorys, however. And, that would be, do you have any? My buddy and I have been trying to consistantly kick out HQ staves, and the best WW on our server is very tight-lipped about his practices, saying there are none. Yet he dominates the AH in their sales. So, if you have any even kind of shaky-sketchy theories, we are all ears. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Vail 17:06, September 22, 2009 (UTC)
