I've been playing MMO's for more than ten years, starting with the old AOL Neverwinter Nights. From there I moved on to Gemstone III/IV, where I stayed for quite a while indeed, and then to various other games. FFXI is the only one I've really "stuck with" since I left Gemstone.
My first run at FFXI was just after it opened to US PC users. I found it really immersive, but frustrating. All you Beastmasters may hate the MPK patch, but I hated losing 10% of a level just because I walked into a zone and died before I could move. So when my friends got fed up and left, I went with them.
I started playing again around January 2006. A lot has changed, but for the better, I think. I've been a very busy bee, as you can see from the userboxes and such. ^^
I thought from the start I wanted to be a White Mage, and I still enjoy it. But it's frustrating not being able to do much by yourself, especially as a Tarutaru. So I made the leap to Summoner. Then I was bitten by the Monk bug, and ended up leveling it all the way to 75. Asuran Fists is a beautiful thing, especially when performed by a Tarutaru. ^^
Then came Thief, because I wanted more Treasure Hunter than I could get with THF as a subjob. After a month of hard farming, I finally dug up a Blau Dolch. Then, of course, I started working on something else, and eventually the Blau was sold in favor of a cheaper knife so that I could fund Scholar. I'm down to a Jambiya now, but hey, at least all that farming back then is still keeping me from having to farm for a while.
I hopped over to Asura for several months in April 2008, but got homesick and came back to Sylph.
Currently, I'm working on Bard. Funny, I never thought I'd want to level that. But it's fun!
The name Ruro-Kuro doesn't signify anything in particular. I just made it up on the spot. I put great store by names, and tend to spend a few hours wrangling with the name generator every time I make a character. ^^
Ruro has rather unruly brown hair, brown eyes, and tanned skin. He stands 1'7" tall, short even by Tarutaru standards. He is almost always found wearing some sort of hat -- the taller, the better -- and a warm smile.
Ruro is happily married to his lovely wife Casiala. They have twin children, a son and daughter, Shariri and Zarik-Marik.
Ruro grew up in Windurst, the only son of a fisherman. While his parents were out fishing for long periods of time, Ruro was largely left in the care of the Fisherman's Guild. Apparently he was a difficult child, as many members of the Guild can attest. Ruro's parents did not want him to become a fisherman, and worked very hard to put him into the Aurastery's School of Magic. While he was initially a troublesome student, one of the teachers took Ruro under his wing, and he developed a fascination for magic that remains to this day. Only a few short months ago, Ruro graduated from the School of Magic, second in his class. He decided to become an adventurer, not for fame or fortune, but to help others.
Ruro has a typical Tarutaru "speech impediment", which some people find difficult to understand.
Ruro looks for humor in everything, and usually finds it. He has a particular fondness for puns.
Ruro is polite to a fault. He believes that everyone deserves respect unless they prove themselves unworthy of it.
