The Life of A Harmonian Bishop

As a new adventurer in Vana'diel, I still have much to learn. However, by partying with new people, making new friends, and chatting with players all around the globe, I manage to pick up useful if not interesting pieces of information everyday. From the day I travelled out to South Gustaberg from the Southern Gates of Bastok as a Tarutaru Red Mage to today, I have learned and discovered many things. These include my role in parties, as well as proper community/social etiquette. There is never a limit to what one can learn in the world of Vana'diel, which is a plus. Currently, my Red Mage sits at level 20, as I am leveling two other jobs at the moment, Black Mage and White Mage. Both of which, are quite unique in their own right.

My ultimate goal (which is not listed in my Wishlist, yet) is to eventually gather a group of friends large and skillful enough to lay waste to the Hyper Notorious Monster that remains undefeated by all Linkshells on Valefor since the last update. That is, without question, Absolute Virtue. I do know many users also have a dream of defeating this monster, and I wish all of you, the best of luck. Besides defeating this Hyper Notorious Monster (HNM), I also look forward to eventually obtaining the Wise Armor +1 Set for Koshinaeru, my Tarutaru Red Mage, as well as the Hauberk +1 set for my Elvaan soon-to-be Dark Knight, Shokuten and finally, the Valor Armor Set for my Hume soon-to-be Paladin, Seshurai (substitute name in place of "Sasarai" since it was unavailable on Valefor). I realize my final dream goals may take years, but when they are accomplished, I will let out a relieved sigh of fulfillment.

From The Beginning

The Origin of Sasarai

The identity of "Sasarai" belongs to the Bishop of the Kingdom of Harmonia in Konami's Playstation 2 RPG, Suikoden III. Sasarai is given the True Earth Rune at birth along with his counterpart twin, Luc, who receives the True Wind Rune. Sasarai is believed to be a strong commander, not only in strength, but in will as well. He has lead many victories in the past wars of the Suikoden Series without suffering heavy casualties. Sasarai is considered to be neither an antagonist or a protagonist in the Suikoden Series.

After completing the series, as well as reading through the manga (which was provided completely by my koi), I felt quite attached to the name of the Harmonian Bishop and decided to bestow it upon myself. Although there is none of my creativity in the name, it is a common user name, that I will use.

The Existence of Final Fantasy XI: Found

I still recall being a 4 year old, screaming and jumping with joy as I defeated the final boss after 13 consecutive tries, completing Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. Being my very first RPG, and my very first SNES game, I loved it. The story was compelling for that period of time, and the gameplay as well as the music was simply astounding. As I grew, I started to collect the series, and now, I am proud to say I own every Final Fantasy to date (including releases for various Nintendo Consoles). In 2004, when Final Fantasy XI was confirmed for its North American Release on the Playstation 2, I planned to get it also. The fact that it was online, did not stop me.

Shortcomings in 2005

After about a year or so of playing, I left the world Vana'diel. "Why?" you may ask? Simple, due to my inexperience with the genre of the game, (Final Fantasy XI being my first Massively-Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game) as well as not having many friends in-game, I struggled completely with the mechanics of Final Fantasy XI. Back then, I did not have a keyboard or mouse, making communication between myself and other players, a large pain. And although I did try to speak, others did not have the patience for me. Although I managed to solo as a Hume Warrior (known as Samdoan) to level 18, things became rather difficult for me. I did not know of macros, I did not know of the in-game translator, I was clueless to many of the concepts of Final Fantasy XI in short. Many players I encountered on my journey in those days were of no help. They did not try to help me, despite the fact I asked them politely and asked if they were busy beforehand (which they replied "no"). With the lack of friends in my online address book, I decided to leave the Vana'diel fon March 20th, 2005. As I left the server of Hades, cancelled my Content ID, and deleted my character, I could still sense a flame of desire in my heart. With that, I knew that one day, I would return.

Spirits of Revival

During my time of absence from Final Fantasy XI and the world of Vana'diel, I began to develop my MMORPG experience, when I was given a PC as a gift from my family. I started with the Java ran MMORPG, known as Runescape. From Jagex's MMORPG, I soon went through many other online games (some of which I will not name due to their complete lack of quality), including Gravity Corp's Ragnarok: Online, Gala-Net's Rappelz, NCSoft's Lineage II: The Chaotic Chronicle, ArenaNet's Guild Wars, and of course, Blizzard's infamous, World of Warcraft. Although I soon established homes in the realms of all of the online games mentioned above, I sound found that there was something lacking in them. A certain appeal, that I could never seem to find. This appeal, was indeed, the vast, exhilarating world of Square Enix's Final Fantasy XI.

By this time, it was the summer of 2007, and I was extremely reluctant to return to Vana'diel. Having met a certain veteran player on Guild Wars who was planning on returning to Final Fantasy XI and did not mind helping me grasp the concepts I had once failed at, made me even more eager to return. This veteran was no other than, Godofmagic, my mentor and first friend in Vana'diel. It is because of him, that I now call Valefor my home inside Final Fantasy XI. With the urge so strong within me, I hastily travelled to all of the Game Stores I knew of in town. With all stocks depleted, I eventually resorted to ordering a copy from Gamestop/Ebgames, which currently had Final Fantasy XI: The Vana'diel Collection 2007 back-ordered.

This particular release from Square Enix's Final Fantasy XI franchise included not only the original Final Fantasy XI game and Rise of Zilart expansion, the package also contained the more recent Chains of Promathia and Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansions. All, for the price of $19.99 USD. After receiving the package 4 days after it came back into stock, I was very excited to return. And after the 4 hour process of installing and then updating, as I heard the narration of the Final Fantasy XI Movie, I knew, that spirits had revived me back, into the world, of Vana'diel.

In The World of Vana'diel

Due to the fact that I have only recently returned to Vana'diel there is still much, for me to explore, learn, experience, etc. I am looking forward to learning, experiencing as well as exploring whatever there is to, even those that lurk in the dark depths of in the heart of Vana'diel.
