Necessary Redirects
Its in my belief that fixing the poor software of this Wiki, which is too uptight about capitalization, with redirects, helps new users who grow frustrated over the sad state of usability of the site. The search functions of many a wiki prove multiple redirects absolutely necessary. They are Necessary Redirects. - Yertthedestroyer 06:04, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- Don't waste your time on this topic, everyone expressed their hatred towards redirects to me long ago in an interesting argument. Apparently redirects take up too much space. It's even a rule now that you can't make redirects like this, I think I'm proud of that ^^. Kylep2 04:09, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Glitch
When clicking on the Wyvern Helm +1 link on the search bar comes up as [[Wyvern Helm 1]] which doesn't exist as an entry on the wikia. JMorgan 21:51, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, this is a known glitch, we've been prodding Wikia to fix it. --CharitwoTalk 21:52, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
name
i don't care to change my name. thanks though ^^ --rOg \ TaLk 06:54, 15 August 2008 (UTC)
Another Glitch?
On the right hand side of the front page, where the box saying "Hello <user>!" and lvl/points to lvl etc is, its not showing my own account, even though I am logged in. Its showing other people's accounts. Is this a glitch? --Aledacia 23:43, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it's a glitch, and is on a high-priority ticket to be fixed. --CharitwoTalk 00:01, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Andrewy and edits to Blog Namespace
Hi Chartwo, Andrewy is one of Wikia's engineers. He was installing the Blog namespace per a request from Gahoo. He is now removing everything as it turns out there are issues getting it to work with Monaco. In the future, can you please take a more polite tone with other staff members? Andrewy was not intending any harm and was following orders from myself and Gahoo. Thanks angies
(talk) 20:40, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
- All' testing takes place at the xen1 server, not here at the live wiki where the local activity takes place. And he needs to fix the latest two pages he made because he removed the blog namespace before removing those pages, making them an invalid title due to the preceding colon. --CharitwoTalk 20:44, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Thank You
Thank you for editing and fixing the categories for my Seagull Crew Phratrie pages/Seagull Crew Phratrie NPC pages. I was having a little difficulty figuring things out. ^^
I'm currently working on COR AF quests in-game, so I'll add pictures for the NPC's if I can get them. --Aledacia 06:43, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Stubborn Dredvodd
The problem with that is lets say there is a NM that drops a r/e item 100% of the time. Now lets say I already have that item and I kill the NM 20 more times and update the droprate for the item, it's going screw up the true droprate. In the case of Dredvodd, i'm almost positive the belt is a 100% drop rate, but there's not enough data to use the 100% template, and since I already had the belt when I killed him, it will never show as dropping and I dont want to taint the total with that result.
If that's true, we might as well do away with the 100% template, because no item is a 100% drop if someone kill a NM and already have the r/e drop. I disagree and am going to ask another mod for a 2nd opinion, I'll drop the issue after that regardless of what they decide. --Jawat 21:14, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
If something is 100% droprate, it doesn't matter if you already have one. Look at Porphyrion. He has about a 600% droprate, if you kill him and already have the key, it'll still drop, but you'll just spam yourself with "could not obtain, item was lost" messages. --Blazza 18:17, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Armor / Weapon Templates
Yes, definately. I've been trying to have them implemented for some time now. ~ Karuberu 23:37, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Differentiate the display? I'm not sure I follow... If you mean the examples on use, I recommend something similar to what I have in my revision of the template (an introduction or note redirecting them to the individual template pages). I don't think having the individual templates displayed on the page would work very well, since it would quickly get to be very large, as you probably realize. Subpages (or seperate pages) could remedy the problem of size, but would likely become outdated as people forget to update them (much like the Key Template).
In any case, I'll let you start the discussion; I've brought up the Armor/Weapon several times now, and I don't want to seem like I'm just harping on about them again. ~ Karuberu 00:55, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, we could place each template after the other (what I was referring to above; "having the individual templates displayed..."), but that would become large rather quickly and may also confuse some newbie editors. The other possibility is to simply treat the templates like we would any other piece of information and swap out bits for placeholder info, like so:
{{<item type> | name = | tags = | type = | slot = | races = | description = | damage = | delay = | stats = | level = | jobs = | charges = | use delay = | recast = }}
However, this damages the aesthetics a bit, and I don't know of any way to fix it while keeping the page small and copy->paste friendly. It also wouldn't cover "Miscellaneous" items, though a {{Miscellaneous}} template could be created rather easily. ~ Karuberu 01:45, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
New info on the up and coming update
There is another sneak peek at what is to be expected on the Main SE website.
Image whitelist
Hi, I'm clearing out some old updates today... I'm not sure if you know, but wikia:MediaWiki:External image whitelist now works for FFXIclopedia -- sannse
(talk) 12:09, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- Awesome. Thanks sannse. --CharitwoTalk 14:43, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
I didn't want...
Toxic told me about my user page and user talk page being restored. I didn't want them restored. I asked for them to be deleted ages ago for what I felt was good reason. I'd appreciate it if you removed them once again, thank you. --Eleri 17:41, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
German Wiki
- I found 2 mistakes in the main menu (left side) on the German Wiki. When you go to Items and click on Waffen you get to the wrong category. It has to be "Kategorie:Waffen. And under "Charaktererstellung" >> "Standard-Jobs" >> "Krieger" is the R missing (atm its "Kriege"). Could you please change it when you have some time. I would really appreciate it. Thanks. --Shaari 17:46, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
- I think Calvagh has the ability to do that, you could ask him in the mean time, because I am at work now and am rather distracted. --CharitwoTalk 18:01, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Gardening recipes pages question
I noticed that on the gardening recipe pages, people are urged to add the same gardening results information to two pages (seed and flowerpot). I was thinking this could be done automatically if the results were put in a template. There's a few issues with that though, which you might be able to shed your light on.
- There would be a template for each combination of seed, pot and 1 or 2 crystals. That's a lot of templates.
- Each template would also need a small edit link for easy updating, but I can't find how to do that. Something like the section edit link, but without the header.
- How would these templates be named? For instance, a wooden flowerpot+tree cuttings+earth+earth could be Gardening:Wooden_Cutting_Earth_Earth?
I made an example on my wiki userpage, replacing the wooden flowerpot+wildgrass seed+earth crystal combination in both tables with a single template.

Those redirects
Yeah I see that now, just didn't realize they were abbreviated like that in-game. Shows how much I play WotG content I guess ;] --.Eithin//T•C 16:10, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
Detonator Belt
Why did you delete my "Not violating image policy" Detonator Belt image in favor of one that DOES violate the image policy? --Lordshadow 02:37, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
RE: Using Preview
Oh, I have used it quite a bit, but I've been fixing up this guide pretty sporadically and I don't trust my Aunt's computer too much. I'm really sorry about that. Also, I've been hitting save whenever I add a lot of stuff, even before I'm finished editing because I'm afraid of a random browser crash or something like that.
For the most part though, I've been able to use preview ALOT more now that I got the main parts up and I'm working on the formatting and just tweaking some of the information.
--Ami 20:13, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
Oh yah. I've done that before to, just not in a while. Blogger's "auto-save" feature and Thunderbird's auto-save draft has spoiled me. :) --Ami 20:24, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
Tubes - Why they aren't separate
Tubes appear as both NPCs and as enemy monsters, much like Ghesso (not spelled right) and Maat. There is no difference in behavior between the NPC and enemy versions (besides who they'll target) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lordshadow (talk • contribs).
Already working on it --Lordshadow 17:52, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Charibot
Yeah, there's only so much you can do with a bot, unfortunately. The removal of all that pesky align="left" code was enough to make me happy, though, lol. Removing it on every page I came across was really getting tedious. ~ Karuberu 22:51, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
Re: Hey
Yeah sorry I moved and dont have a computer I can only rarely use the computer at the library ;-; So yeah I missed the past update much to the dismay of me :/ I am already saving up for a laptop so I should be back and running soon :D THanks for the concern :P. --Ash 18:36, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
FFXI-
When the move to Wikia occurred someone else on a different wiki owned the Techno nickname. I couldn't decide on a variant of the name, so I just left it the way it was. I don't know if someone else still does or not and I haven't thought about what else I'd like to be named for a while. Thanks for checking though. --TECHNO-- Talk / Contrib 23:20, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
How do I use import?
What exactly do I put in for the import? or who exactly do I credit it to? --Lord0din69 02:05, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Is this right?
So I've saved the .xml and imported, but I needed to take some of the stuff out not used. However, I still don't see any credited informations anywhere? Is it right? --Lord0din69 02:30, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, sorry I didn't mean to steal it. --Lord0din69 02:52, 28 October 2008 (UTC)
