Happy Belated Birthday, sorry I missed it, though I made up for it with something you may or may not notice. :D --CharitwoTalk 05:46, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Copyright pictures

There is a person, Charitwo, who has a copywrited picture on his page. He used paint to remove the copywrite. When you are playing FFXI and take a picture it puts a copywrite at the bottom of the page. He took it upon hisself to remove this copywrite so he could post his picture. He belives that since he is an Administrator he is above the rules of this website and can do whatever he wants. Please correct this problem.

No action needed. Image is direct from SE. --GAHOO t/ c 19:43, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Copyright and sourcing

Ah, okay. --Chrisjander t/ c 17:17, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Please note, that all images related to this game are copyrighted by Square-Enix and belong exclusively to Square-Enix. As related directly to copyrights, to secure a copyright, the user must have created an original work with some sort of creative input to it. None of the images from Final Fantasy XI are original images as related to people who play the game. Thus, no player can assert a copyright over images from the game. Only Square Enix may do so.

I have a few questions about the above. To start with it's my understanding that the laws concerning copyright doesn't require much originality for a new work be copyright-able. For example, a photograph of a painting certainly does not enjoy protection, but just a photograph of a paining with a person or two standing by or in front of the painting would.

First, if there's any originality involved (e.g. any original combination of background, angle, lighting, pose, etc.), wouldn't it grant copyright protection to the picture taker?

Second, if all screenshots are copyrighted to S-E, can they be used under GNU FDL? Where has the company explicitly stated that this use is approved? --FFXI-Itazura 20:10, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

In my view, S-E provided the components, but the user selected the specifics from allowed range of choices when it comes to screenshots. Those choices enable creativity and originality.

While S-E does assert copyright (as noted on the bottom of every shot taken with the game client), the situation seems a little more murky than that. What if someone made an object from a pile of Lego bricks, and take a picture of something he put together from those Lego pieces? Screenshots of in-game objects which users can compose scenery with is a lot closer to that situation than to a simple photograph of a static, set-in-fixed-medium painting.

In any case, even if FFXIclopedia is not barred by copyright law to use screenshots posted on other sites, as a practical matter it seems prudent to have a rule to forbid such copying without expressed permission of the screenshot taker. After all, copyright is codified respect for those to provide original contents. So, whether or not screenshots are original or creative enough for the purpose of law, what harm can it be to extend such courtesy to those who provide useful screenshots to the FFXI player community? --FFXI-Itazura 01:33, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

Ammo

Because the Statistics section are for facts, moreover a text depiction of exactly how it appears in the image, with any necessary breakdown of additional effects, enchantments, DPS, TP/hit, or latent effects. All ammunition which can be thrown is denoted in the image and likewise in the statistics section as (Throwing) All Races and lists damage and job info as needed, varying from item to item. The updated statistics do not reflect this and therefore are no longer part of the section. This clearly depicts it as a throwable item distinguishing it from those which cannot be thrown which merely just have attribute and modifier adjustments. --CharitwoTalk 23:17, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Because these aforementioned 5 pertain to the modifier and attributes of the item in question, the fact that they cannot be thrown is obvious by looking at either the image or the statistics section itself. It is best to keep it relevant to how the statistics work(latent, DPS, etc.), not how they don't work(oh these can't be thrown, duh!). It's like putting This cannot be eaten. on Orphic Egg. --CharitwoTalk 23:28, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

Nevermind about the e-mail, resolved the issue myself and was able to post to the forums and add to Scholar and Dancer. Elmer the Pointy 15:13, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Scholar

You locked Scholar as I was mid edit trying to get it to look like the other pages, but oh well lol. I just uploaded the picture below to use. Playonline still does not have the nice new artwork up like the rest of the jobs. Feel free to use it if you want:

[[:Image:SCHJOB.jpg]] oops forgot to sign this lol --Spops™ t/ c 19:09, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Dancer

Please delete this image [[:Image:IMGDNC.jpg]] I named it incorrectly, so I uploaded it again with the correct name [[:Image:DNCJOB.JPG]]. On the Dancer Page I replaced the image you had with the one I got from playonline.com so it matches the Scholar image. If you don’t like it, please revert it back to the picture you had.--Spops™ t/ c 19:22, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

IRC

Charitwo asked me to leave you a message. Wanted to know if you can come into the new IRC room. --Spops™ t/ c 02:25, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Note

Actually, I undid the edit, I did not use rollback (hence how I typed why I was doing what I was doing (duh)) You need to learn how to use the drop rate template, we report ALL drops. Not just the popular ones, you weren't around when we made this template, this is how it works. --CharitwoTalk 22:14, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about the beastcoin, I kept the templates there because if it's not there, and people don't know about the template, they probably won't know to report anything. Sorry for any misunderstandings. --CharitwoTalk 22:23, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Speedy Deletes - Campaign Ops

Who did you ask before deciding to delete these? Both myself and Chrisjander have agreed to keep these as redirects, and move ones created at the abbreviated title to the expanded one. --CharitwoTalk 18:10, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
