Content box

This may be a simplistic question but how do you add those content boxes which map out a pages content (i.e 1.2: Mobs/ 1.3: NMs)? --FFXI-RevenantFFXI-Revenant 19:33, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Template fix or addition

I was wondering if anyone who can edit a checklist template looks at talk pages associated with it. I know it may seem like a small thing but was wondering how often they are seen. Thanks :D --Tsavi 17:56, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

{{Title}}

What kind of sorcery is this? It didn't work the other day but now whammo! /pokes the database --CharitwoTalk 01:04, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Beastiary completion

Just checking if its ok to insert a header "Ecology" for each beastiary class while I complete them.

EDIT: Ok saw the sandbox and won't need to do the ecology thing on the beastiary, was mostly to keep it apart from other info on the page like historical information on a monster family. --FFXI-Revenant 20:06, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Undelete

Take a look at the code in User:Charitwo/Gadget-EnhancedUndelete.js, if you copy that to User:Gahoo/monaco.js, you will have the capability to have a "Select All/Invert All" option on Special:Undelete. --CharitwoTalk 23:56, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Beastman Icon

You still have a need for this ? --CharitwoTalk 00:14, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

New Widget

Take a look at your widgets menu, seems to be a new widget called "Help needed", could be a way to highlight stuff needing extra attention. I tested it out at MediaWiki:Needhelp, check it out. Feel free to tweak, overhaul, redo etc. --CharitwoTalk 03:59, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

New Page

i had an idea for page idea to fight RMT. on the "RMT" page, we can post a link to the STF specfial task force report page: https://secure.playonline.com/supportus/exmf.html#stt with useful info for fighting RMT like, what STF is looking for, how many thousand have been baned, etc. then when anyone sees RMTs in game u can say "wiki "RMT" for link to banning them", i think it would really help cause that address isnt easy to remmeber or spread the word about. should i ask community or a certain persons permission or just go ahead and make the new page? --Kerah 16:09, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

this "STF" page would be ok? when friends say somethign in LS about "gd RMT here again!"etc it would be easy to pass around a phrase like "wiki STF and ban them" i know alot of friends that would love to have an easier way to file STF complaints. SE has a knack for making something not easy to find >.<--Kerah 20:34, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

o sweet, it works ^.^ im gonna tell everyone to pass around the word to hundreds of friends, anytime u see an RMT just "wiki RMT" and ban those ****ers!! great job gahoo ^.^ --Kerah 20:41, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

I was repeating the format used for Invincible Shield (Vana'diel Tribune). --Chrisjander t/ c 02:49, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Template help

Gahoo, could you help me with editing/creating templates? I use several on the site, but don't like the formatting of a couple of them. Any help you could provide would be great. Leave a talk request on my User Page

New Poll

Whats up with the new poll about the update not including the new JA and spells, etc. I think most people would agree that the new Job Abilities and spells were the most significant. I know my SAM enjoys Sekkanoki quite a bit. --Kariudo 03:55, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

mob jobs

Its a tad frustrating that I report an edit war to one admin/jradmin/whatever, and then another admin appears to side with the guy. Maybe that has to do with my browser accident pissing chari off (edit conflict message, I hit refresh, it went away, thought I was good to go).

Should have ended at the verification tag. Because the fact is we won't know until someone takes some time to check instead of arguing on wiki (which I won't have for months). The tone of this argument is not civil its condescending. He gave me all of 5 min to "cite evidence" before removing it the 1st time, offered zero proof that there are no crabs that aren't paladin, and even with a verification tag I'm expected to go dig up my old links from pre zilart (JP sites listing crabs as rdm). Those websites may no longer even exist. It'll be hard enough just getting a good translation into english. A burden of proof on something with a verification tag. ARG. Just because I can't pull up proof or at least some nice complex math that makes it look like I have something doesn't mean if someone else sees the verification tag they might be able to test it in a way I haven't thought of.

If someone can put forth proof either way, I'm happy. I don't need to be "the one thats right". But I have an open mind and this resembles someone slamming a door in my face. I have remained calm until now and now I am rather pissed off and taking a vacation from even looking at the wiki.

Look at the edit history, look at his contribs, look at the other category pages he's edit warring on that do not involve me at all. This isn't just a disagreement on crabs. This is him trying to be the authority on all mob's jobs.

His proof isn't any stronger than my "proof" which I never said was. He can prove certain crabs defense line up to where a player pld that level would be. Even presuming that crab is a pld (which actually I do based on other information) does not show that all crabs are paladin. Uses same argument for beetles and some have double attack. Thats not a pld trait.

I think it's entirely possible our entire concept of mob "jobs" is off. They can inherit the traits of assigned jobs yes, but they don't appear to be strictly rigidly limited to the abilities or stats of an assigned job.

I'm told lesser colibri are set up whm/whm in the dats with subjob listed higher than main. Mobs don't follow the same rules.

And btw; http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/index.php?title=River_Crab&diff=prev&oldid=27781 What is the source of the job info there? Obtained from another cite and took their word for it, lined up its defense rating to pld with some math, or just assumed its a pld because generally crabs are pld?

I have a half thought out argument saved in notepad I haven't posted to the crab talk page yet because I can't yet find any of my links that still work and my sisters kids are screaming my heads pounding and I just can't concentrate which makes me make mistakes like forgetting to sign and my silence will be taken by this guy as him winning. *implodes* --1.quos.vita.habitum.captivus 21:42, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

IE6

You can't revert for a version of Internet Explorer that is no longer supported and is known to cause problems, download IE7. The image looks fine in both browsers. --CharitwoTalk 21:13, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Showtime

Seems like you're starting now. Do you want to put a heads up message on the wiki to let people know? I don't know how to global in MediaWiki, but I can throw one up in the forums as well if you want. --Chrisjander t/ c 20:20, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Weird, any thread that you post in the forums loads really slow for me, and when it does, your sig banner image only loads partway. Does it do the same for you? --Chrisjander t/ c 20:36, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Special:ProblemReports/8853

Actually, he was right, I've re-opened the report. The maw is in the SW corner of (K-9) not the NE corner of the (J-10). It's on the peak of the cliff, the location on the map is actually on the other side of a valley, where the maw is barely targetable. Probably should point this out to the FFXI atlas folks. --CharitwoTalk 23:53, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

request clear policy on this

Has this been brought up before? If its somewhere I just haven't browsed to yet, link me.

I read on 1 of the mob family talk pages someone saying something I thought should be the case but wasn't. This person stated jobs weren't supposed to be on family pages. My own opinion is if we aren't going to list all jobs including NM job we should leave it to individual mob pages. If this person is wrong, can we clearly define what if any job (no nm/all jobs/no job) should be present on the category page? If there isn't supposed to be a job listed on categories, perhaps a bot auto removing the line when added would be in order.

A clear linkable policy or said bot could be good preventative medicine and make a certain pointless argument die if you know what I mean. --1.quos.vita.habitum.captivus 22:40, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Side note:
| Go figure --1.quos.vita.habitum.captivus 00:00, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Sweet, I presume NM jobs can be listed as "uncommon" in the new template, which should make mr crankypants stfu. A note that NM jobs are allowed to be listed might help but shouldn't be needed *crosses fingers* --1.quos.vita.habitum.captivus 20:17, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Well in the case of beetles there are actually a lot of NM ones listed drk, but I'd still prefer it to be listed as uncommon since (as far as I am aware) there aren't any drk beetles you'd bump into aside from them. I understand its not meant to be a complete list of every mob type in the family, my main concern centers around accidentally creating the perception that it is, which this should fix ^^

But if we are specifically excluding certain ones based on a criteria such as 2 or more we need to explicitly say so somewhere where a future editor would be likely to see it or its going to lead to confusion and bickering (even more likely if an NM is involved). And if we are going exclude an uncommon job for being well, uncommon, then whats the point of listing jobs on the family page at all? Its not as if the average beetle can pop invincible on you and a lot of mobs have pretty good defense that aren't listed as pld. --1.quos.vita.habitum.captivus 01:21, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

absorbs page

from
http://ffxi.wikia.com/wiki/Absorb_Spells

"Some Absorbs are generally considered more useful than others, these being STR, DEX, MND (Often used before Guillotine), TP and ACC. The others are often considered to be situational at best, especially after the so-called "two-handed" update, making DEX and STR that much more important in a build."
Emphasis mine. The page and its talk page are protected so I can't even mention on the talk page that I don't think thats entirely appropriate. That update gave us a free attack and accuracy boost so it could be seen as less important it all depends on your PoV. Anyway can we unlock the talk page? --1.quos.vita.habitum.captivus 22:59, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Thats really weird, I even cleared my browser catch and it still said "view source" instead of the edit button up top. Changing themes may have corrected it for me (saw the new one and decided I liked it since its left side oriented) but that shouldn't have mattered. --1.quos.vita.habitum.captivus 20:24, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Ok following my own link above it says view source, following the link you sent me I have edit...Wth? The url above is what I got from my browser following a link from the dark knight page. They don't match and I definitely was logged in at the time. --1.quos.vita.habitum.captivus 20:25, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Typo in the new bestiary template.

http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_Mob_Family

"XPBouns" is used in several places, should this not be "XP Bonus"? I'd fix it myself but template code does my head in ;_; TheMysteriousX 16:46, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Stop!!!!

It's already done, see Mog Bonanza 2008. --CharitwoTalk 19:46, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Also, I didn't upload all those huge rank 1 prizes because they just wont fit in a properly formatted article, so I just used the 100M gil image for centering. --CharitwoTalk 19:52, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Btw, How could you miss that? I've been working on it all afternoon O_o --CharitwoTalk 20:00, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

I had it link to POL temporarily because I didn't want the Main Page linking to a non-finished page. And it took quite a while to set all that up inbetween work. --CharitwoTalk 20:13, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

OK --CharitwoTalk 20:48, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

New mob family category template. Something I didn't think of.

How should sub jobs on mobs be handled? For example say we have a pld/war beetle, at 1st we might think list pld/war on its jobs right? But Some mobs after dat checking we have whm/whm, that might confuse people. So should we list without regard to whether or not its main or sub? I'm not to sure theres even a difference for mobs, because I know of a mob in the dats listed as a whm/whm with sub set higher than main. Similar confusion could arrise from not listing subjob. Diamond Daig has double attack, so he's either war main or sub or SE decided to add DA to it at their whim (I'm looking into that to find out).

I'm certainly glad all our categories won't be constantly fought over do to a lv 67 starmite perfectly matching a theoretical pld/pld mob followed by the brilliant deduction that its entire family must be pld/pld though. ^^ --1.quos.vita.habitum.captivus 20:42, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
