Breads & Rice
If you type in "Breads" - Hit search - you will see THIS. The first one says Breads & Rice but when you click it - it goes to Breads. Now apparently, many, many pages have Breads & Rice rather than the actual page Breads and Rice. Is there any way to delete the so called Breads & Rice page so that it wont appear in the search? I don't know how it was made in the first place if we can't activate it. It appears like we have to move all those links... in the what links here it those pages dont show anywhere. --Nynaeve 14:54, 28 January 2007 (EST)
Thanks to User:Washuotaku, all the pages that said Breads & Rice will now say [[Breads and Rice|Breads & Rice]]. So this still brings up the problem of the Breads & Rice appearing in the search function having ppl click on it rather than the second correct one, which brings me to the question of is there a way to wipe this from the server? Also there is a Meat & Egg out there in the list as well... Anyone to get rid of this on the server as well considering the correct pages of Breads and Rice and Meat and Eggs exists. --Nynaeve 22:55, 28 January 2007 (EST)
EXP loss
And I'm telling you I personally tested exp loss at high levels prior to the "exp loss cap" update and found it capped at 2400. When I saw the update notes I thought to myself "there's a non-change". --Aurikasura 16:14, 30 January 2007 (EST)
Wikilosophy
You may be familiar with it, but if not I'd like to introduce you to the following quote from the founder of Wikipedia on the philosophy governing a massive Wiki such as Wikipedia, or on a lesser scale FFXIclopedia.
As we move forward with software and social changes, I think it is imperative that I state clearly and forcefully my views on openness and the license. This page, like all Wikipedia pages, is a living, dynamic document, which I will update and clarify as legitimate questions arise. I should point out that these are my principles, such that I am the final judge of them. This does not mean that I will not listen to you, but it does mean that at some ultimate, fundamental level, this is how Wikipedia will be run. (But have no fear, as you will see, below.)
1.
Wikipedia's success to date is entirely a function of our open community. This community will continue to live and breathe and grow only so long as those of us who participate in it continue to Do The Right Thing. Doing The Right Thing takes many forms, but perhaps most central is the preservation of our shared vision for the NPOV and for a culture of thoughtful, diplomatic honesty.
2.
Newcomers are always to be welcomed. There must be no cabal, there must be no elites, there must be no hierarchy or structure which gets in the way of this openness to newcomers. Any security measures to be implemented to protect the community against real vandals (and there are real vandals, who are already starting to affect us), should be implemented on the model of "strict scrutiny".
"Strict scrutiny" means that any measures instituted for security must address a compelling community interest, and must be narrowly tailored to achieve that objective and no other.
For example: rather than trust humans to correctly identify "regulars", we must use a simple, transparent, and open algorithm, so that people are automatically given full privileges once they have been around the community for a very short period of time. The process should be virtually invisible for newcomers, so that they do not have to do anything to start contributing to the community.
3.
"You can edit this page right now" is a core guiding check on everything that we do. We must respect this principle as sacred.
4.
Any changes to the software must be gradual and reversible. We need to make sure that any changes contribute positively to the community, as ultimately determined by me, in full consultation with the community consensus.
5.
The GNU FDL license, the openness and viral nature of it, are fundamental to the long-term success of the site. Anyone who wants to use our content in a closed, proprietary manner must be challenged. We must adhere very strictly to both the letter and spirit of the license.
6.
The mailing list will remain open, well-advertised, and will be regarded as the place for meta-discussions about the nature of Wikipedia. Very limited meta-discussion of the nature of the Wikipedia should be placed on the site itself. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. The topic of Wikipedia articles should always look outward, not inward at the Wikipedia itself.
7.
Anyone with a complaint should be treated with the utmost respect and dignity. They should be encouraged constantly to present their problems in a constructive way in the open forum of the mailing list. Anyone who just complains without foundation, refusing to join the discussion, I am afraid I must simply reject and ignore. Consensus is a partnership between interested parties working positively for a common goal. I must not let the "squeaky wheel" be greased just for being a jerk.
8.
Diplomacy consists of combining honesty and politeness. Both are objectively valuable moral principles. Be honest with me, but don't be mean to me. Don't misrepresent my views for your own political ends, and I'll treat you the same way.
[Wales]
Points 3, 7, and 8 are particularly applicable to recent events, and I'm glad to see that these standards are carrying over to this wiki as well.

TIME
Yeah, the only thing that links to it currently is my User page hehe. After I'm all done with it I was thinking I would go to each of the pages that feature the Airship and respective ship schedules and slip in little bits of "SEE ALSO" here and there where relevent. So, in the end there will be like 7 pages that link over to it. But I really want this page to be very thorough. I plan to add a couple diagrams and visuals and I'm currently working on the biggest part concerning the moon phases. ^^
Once I pretty the page and layout up to meet the high quality standards of the WIKI I'll make the page more easy to find :)

Blue Mage Subpage
I noticed you were missing some spells on your completed spell list, namely Wild Carrot, Blank Gaze, Zephyr Mantle, Mind Blast, Magic Hammer, and Exuviation. Just curious if you forgot to incorporate these(whether obtained/yet to obtain) and/or have abandoned the page. --Charitwo 15:22, 12 March 2007 (EDT)
Redirect question
There are several redirects existant that I am wary to mark, but I thought I'd get some clarification on. There are many that are redirecting to the proper page that involve Title Casing and spacing for example:
A Taste for Meat → A Taste For Meat
or
FellowLevelingGuide → Fellow Leveling Guide
Should I start tagging these too? --Charitwo 15:49, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
Reasoning
The only reason i'm touching user pages like that is that when me and Chrisjander did the deletion tag/delete for unnecessary redirects, when all the quest redirects were deleted, the (what links here) for each of them broke the respective links on those respective userpages... and that's why i was fixing those. --Charitwo 20:13, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
Hosting
Hi Ganiman. I saw your fundraising appeal and wondered if Wikia could help. We'd love to offer you free hosting. Please email me (angela@wikia.com) if you're interested. Angela 17:56, 16 March 2007 (EDT)
This host may be a bit sketchy... They seem to have been around for about as long as us, but I'm not sure they have the facilities to handle the kind of bandwidth we pull in... --Chrisjander 18:10, 16 March 2007 (EDT)
Also, as for the google ad policies, it seems to be a pain and half to get them to block the things you want blocked. Seems like handing over our baby to strangers :( --Chrisjander 18:18, 16 March 2007 (EDT)
- Hi Chris. It's definitely not sketchy. Wikia was founded by me and Jimmy Wales (the founder of Wikipedia) and received $14million of investment last year, so we're certainly able to cope with the bandwidth of another wiki. :) Angela 19:38, 17 March 2007 (EDT)

Embedded Video ?
Is this a new feature you implemented? I see potential for abuse :/ --Charitwo 10:22, 22 March 2007 (EDT)
Check out this style:The only problem I see with the straight embedding is size. We can come up with a better image than the one above, but if all videos are on /video subpages then the above icon can be sized however best for the page. See User:Gahoo/Sandbox for two examples. --Gahoo 11:15, 22 March 2007 (EDT)
I know it's a feature on the forums, but I didn't see anything about it being on the Wiki. I kinda like Gahoo's idea, however usually with embedded content, whether it be audio or video, some browsers you'll have plugin issues, especially with Firefox. --Charitwo 11:22, 22 March 2007 (EDT)
Usage does not necessarily have to be the same everywhere. What if an article wants more than one video? For example a mission walkthrough with 3 fights and 3 different videos. Since the straight embed is not scalable I do not want to see articles which are dominated by these youtube screens (not that I think there will be that many used - at least at first). If there is a logical place for the straight embedding (possibly like in your example) then I don't necessarily see a problem (until someone else wants to show a different strategy). --Gahoo 11:30, 22 March 2007 (EDT)
See User:Gahoo/Sandbox vs. User:Gahoo/Sandbox2. Colors are not meant to be final at all. Stolen from fireworks page. --Gahoo 13:22, 22 March 2007 (EDT)
I just posted a reply on forums, just wanted to throw my opinion and concerns in. I see you briefly described its use on the image policy page. Since most videos would still be considered "strategy" or "for show", these would not be appropriate on the main page but would be ok for discussion pages and such? Just wanted to make sure all the bugs and rules are worked out before we see a slew of opinionated videos get put on the site. --Wayka 14:11, 22 March 2007 (EDT)
New server problem with thumbnails?
For the first image someone uploaded since the server upgrade: Image:Onryo.jpg, when I embedded the image on that mob's page with the thumb command: [[Image:Onryo.jpg|thumb|Onryo]], when viewing the mob's page, it gives the following error message:
Error creating thumbnail: sh: /usr/bin/convert: No such file or directory
It's not giving this message for any pre-server upgrade pages, only this post server upgrade image. No other images have been uploaded yet that would be thumbed, so I wanted to let you know so you can see what may be causing this issue. Thanks! --Wayka 05:32, 3 May 2007 (CDT)
Time of day seems off
Another error I have noticed since server upgrade, the time of day for the server seems to be off by a few minutes, when posting new things the server side seems to be behind about 4-6 minutes from computers synchronized with time.windows.com. Name Origin
Hey, Gani. I have a question, and I mean it totally benignly. Hehe. What is the origin of your name? Because my friend, who speaks fluent Mandarin, informs me, that basically, you could translate your name as "F*** You, Man". I just think that's hilarious, and wonder if that's what was intended.
Um.... love me, and don't ban me? Lol --Zaine 15:24, 10 May 2007 (CDT)

Table Classes
If you've had any experience with CSS, you might consider making some new table classes in MediaWiki:Common.css.
A table.FFXI would work well enough, since most of the tables in FFXIclopedia look the same, aside from row colors (which could be denoted as table.FFXI tr.blue or table.FFXI tr.red), or more specific names, such as table.Monster, for the minor differences in the tables.
I just know it'd be a heck of a lot easier to write {| class="Monster" than to write out border="0" width="100%" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2", not to mention it's a form of Transclusion, so if you change the CSS, you change all the tables that use it. ~ Karuberu 14:39, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
Speaking of core files, what were you trying earlier this morning with Common.js? I only saw the deletion log, but not whatever it was you were attempting beforehand. --CharitwoTalk 18:39, 23 May 2007 (CDT)
Ok, I figured you had experience with it, but didn't want to assume, since the MediaWiki software doesn't really require knowledge of CSS. On another note, if you're going to be upgrading FFXIclopedia, I highly recommend getting the Parser Functions extension. It would be extremely useful in creating templates. ~ Karuberu 15:01, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
Oh good, I hadn't noticed they'd been installed. Thanks for the link, in the future, I'll pay more attention to what's installed before requesting it, lol. ~ Karuberu 15:59, 24 May 2007 (CDT)
Per our discussion about the Main Page title, the following would need to be added to MediaWiki:Common.css:
body.page-Main_Page h1.firstHeading, body.page-Main_Page h1.pagetitle { display: none; }

Gahoo, Chrisjander, and RMT/Real Money Trade Articles
I strongly disagree with both their decisions to warrant keeping both of these articles, see Talk:RMT and Talk:Real Money Trade. It violates 3 aspects of FFXIclopedia:Prohibited Articles and therefore is subject to speedy deletion. They are here to enforce the rules, not let them be bent. The articles are not in constant danger of being recreated, and even if they were, they would be speedy deleted. If you are going to keep the two articles you might as well delete FFXIclopedia:Prohibited Articles as well because you'd be going against 3 criteria it defines as articles subject to deletion. --CharitwoTalk 08:12, 25 May 2007 (CDT)

Sandbox
Take a look at Sandbox 3. I added a notes section, for mob articles that have additional info like TP moves and stuff, but the width is going to be a problem with the top box being set at an auto width, because notes will vary widely and an auto width for that section will cause a big fluctuation in width that doesn't align with the box on the top. --CharitwoTalk 12:44, 29 May 2007 (CDT)

- It's not really deletion, the revision and/or article is still there, just users without the permission cannot view it. It's like adding &bot=1 to Special:Contributions, but nobody can find it by just clicking Show Bots. I figured it could be helpful for stuff like this, which is primarily your(read:mierin's) department. A perfect example would be the user talk edit revision of mine you removed from poof's usertalk page. Or inappropriate edit summaries from vandalism or what have you, because with this new version of mediawiki we have the (New Page:yadayadayada or Replacing page with "yadayadayada" etc) now and stuff like this can happen. Something I thought would be useful, but the usage is up to ya'll, of course. --CharitwoTalk 17:25, 13 July 2007 (CDT)

User talk pages
Per FFXIclopedia:Content Control and Article Ownership
Some contributors feel very possessive about material that they have donated to this project. Some go so far as to defend them against all intruders. It is one thing to take an interest in an article that you maintain on your watchlist or originally drafted. But if this watchfulness crosses a certain line, then you are overdoing it. Believing that an article has an owner of this sort is a common mistake people make on FFXIclopedia. You cannot stop everyone in the world from editing "your" stuff, once you have posted it to FFXIclopedia.
Primary editors, that is to say, one editor who takes ownership of an article, should be approached on the article talk page with a descriptive header that informs readers about the topic. This typically arises in guides that are entitled by User and/or contain the {{UserGuide}} template. Always avoid accusations, attacks, and speculations concerning the motivation of editors. If necessary, ignore attacks made in response to a query. If the behavior continues, the issue may require dispute resolution, but it is important to make a good attempt to communicate with the editor on the article talk page beforehand. While all unprotected articles on FFXIclopedia may be edited by any user, special consideration should be taken when editing a guide containing the {{UserGuide}} template.
With all due respect, I do believe you are contradicting your own policies set forth by the administration of this Wiki. The user talk page is for messages from other users, you would be right in correcting me for editing other user's messages, however it is still my edit that I was removing the broken link for which was since deleted. Chastising me because you have a yellow box across your screen is absurd, otherwise how could you be assuming good faith? There is no other reason lash out at me other than the aforementioned. I don't deserve this treatment and all you're doing is causing me unneeded stress when all I am doing is putting forth effort to the wiki project. Requested Moves was emptied today, something that hasn't happened...ever. This would never have happened if there wasn't someone to change all the links, someone to bring up the insane backlog on all those Chocobo Raising move requests, and somebody to discuss with the administration on a completely seperate basis on the backlog in it's entirety. And all you care about is yelling at me for some stupid notification box that takes 1 click of a mouse to remove? For once in my time spent here, I think I deserve a little better than that. Because all I ever get is negative feedback from the administration for my contributions. --CharitwoTalk 21:04, 21 July 2007 (CDT)
Bots
In short, we need a bot policy. Roger has been using the python wikipediabot to make some minor changes to a massive number of pages (the latest was changing the parenthesis to square brackets on armor pages). Luckily, he hasn't done much harm and Charitwo is monitoring any damage the bot may do.
The problem is that he's not marked as a bot (the hide/show bot edits doesn't work for him) and there's no way for others to stop his bot (other than the ways to stop a user), making it a potentially dangerous situation. I don't have much knowledge regarding bots and how to deal with them, but I do know that they shouldn't just be run randomly. If we do start using bots, they should definately be managed somehow and thier functions discussed before they are run.
Sorry if this has already been brought to your attention or if it is being handled by another admin, but someone needs to take care of it and I thought you'd probably be the best qualified. ~ Karuberu 01:12, 3 August 2007 (CDT)
