Historical Background
In Norse mythology, Váli was the son of Odin & Rindr, a giantess. He was conceived after Odin visited seers to determine how to get revenge for Baldr's death. Their advice was to go to Ruthenia and rape the princess of that kingdom, Rindr, to conceive Vali. He grew into full adulthood 1 day after being born. His sole purpose for existing was to slay Höðr for killing Baldr, the god of light (Höðr had killed Baldr by accident using an arrow or spear made of mistletoe [See: Mistilteinn]). Vali is destined to survive Ragnarok.
There is another Váli in Norse mythology, a son of Loki who was transformed into a wolf by the Æsir (Norse gods). Vali tore out his brother, Narfi's, throat.
