Notes:

  • Immune to Silence
  • Has spike effects that deal immense damage (180-230 damage per swing ) Appears to be during random swings. Can be removed with Dispel.(Our group was not able to dispel spikes with either Dispel (Spell) or Magic Finale. dual wielders, especially thfs with triple attack, are at risk of killing themselves off these spikes. Spikes also seemed to be 'flame spikes'
  • Spikes did not appear to be random, instead it appeared that spikes were active while Velionis was not actively casting. When casting spikes did not take effect. Would need confirmation on this. Verification Needed
  • Can be intimidated
  • Spawned by trading Golden Teeth to a ??? at (F-11) in Arrapago Reef on the 1st map.
  • The ??? Respawns approximately 5 minutes after Velionis has been defeated.
  • Uses Malediction (300-400 AoE Drain).
  • Does not aggro upon declaim.
  • Kiteable since it stops every few meters to cast a spell, if no target in range it just stands in the spot for 5-6 seconds. Also, does not melee at all, only caste spells of random elements.
  • The lower its HP gets the faster it casts until around 10-15% it seems to cast instantly. This also affects its delay between casts. *(Read Discussion page)
  • Spams Tier III and Tier II AoE.
  • The shortest route to the trigger point is through the Azouph Isle Staging Point, entering Arrapago Reef, and using the Lamian Fang Key to get to F-11.
  • Killed with 13 people (3/3) fairly easily including Mnk, Pld and Blu, 2x WHMs and 3x BLMs. Essentially zerg while stunning repeatedly and spamming cures on melees. Pld held him by the spawn points, Blu headbutted constantly (with BLM stuns). Dispel spikes to start though does resist. Rest zerg/nuke/cure. 2 belts, 0 scythes.
  • Resistant or immune to Repose
  • Easily killed by 3-4 SMNs using Titan's Mountain Buster. Some kiting may be needed.
*Easily killed w/3 ppl COR, RDM, BLM. Pull to Apkallu camp just north of spawn point throught a tunnel that leads to next map and fight there so you dont get aggro from skellies in area. Tunnel has 2 Imps that are easily avoided. COR and RDM basically bounced hate back and forth and BLM did DoT cycle for added dmg with occasional nukes but not enough to pull hate from COR or RDM. Fairly certain COR, RDM can duo this with minimal problems. Beware of initial nuke after pop as getting into the red could cause massive aggro from surronding mobs.
  • Difficult Duo for SMN/WHM & RDM/NIN. Relatively easy till it hits that 10%. RDM will have little trouble DoTing then running, but SMN must take when engaing & BPing as this gives Velionis time enough to target you for an -aga.

Historical Background

Velionis is the Lithuanian word for “the deceased”.
