Historical Background

Wespe is the German word for "wasp". Wespe is also the name of a German howitzer used in World War II. It was very slender, which is most likely what inspired its name (not to mention the cannon as the stinger). The Wespe first saw action in 1943. It was primarily deployed on the Eastern Front. Production ceased in mid 1944 when Soviet forces captured the Polish factories manufacturing it. 662 in all were manufactured.
