Historical Information
"Wight" generally refers to the undead, likely derived from Tolkien's usage of the term Barrow-Wight to refer to wraiths in Lord of the Rings. The modern usage is probably a result of fantasy writers subsequently using the word Wight to mean a certain type of undead creature, despite its Old English roots as a word simply meaning "creature", most especially "human". "Wightslayer" can then be taken to mean "Wraith Killer".
The Wightslayer was a weapon in Final Fantasy III, obtainable by defeating an optional boss at the top of the western tower in Castle Sasune. While not specifically tied to Blue Mage as with other Nyzul Weapons and their respective jobs, the naming convention follows with other BLU-specific swords in FFXI.
